Marilicious Approved: Kryolan Dermacolor Camouflage Concealer

Best and cheapest concealer / Kryolan Dermacolor Camouflage Concealer

Concealer is very important to me. I’m not talking about under eye concealing (although that’s important too) but blemish concealing. Having suffered from acne and breakouts for as long as I can remember, concealer has always been my best ally.

I since healed my skin, after doing extensive research, using the right products, checking ingredients (avoiding creams with silicones and staying the hell away from foaming cleansers as they contain sodium laureate sulfate), and adjusting my diet (for example I don’t eat grains as they contain lectins which interfere with the immune system. If I eat quinoa, I break out the next day or 2). Yet I feel really vulnerable if I don’t have immediate access to a concealer. When I travel, the following 3 things HAVE to be in my bag:

  • the Eight hour cream
  • this Kryolan concealing kit that I’m about to review
  • and a sleeping eye mask

I have been a big fan of the (unfortunately underrated) Clinique blemish concealer (full review here) yet when I came across this Kryolan Dermacolor Camouflage Concealer, it blew me away.

What is the Kryolan Dermacolor Camouflage Concealer?

Rumor has it that this puppy was the source of inspiration for the so well known Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer (they didn’t get creative with the name, apple never falls far from the tree hum hum…).

Kryolan is THE brand when it comes to theater and movie makeup, and it’s French 😉 they have an extended range for special effects and drag makeup and the quality is top notch.

Why I love this Kryolan Dermacolor Camouflage Concealer:

  • Besides the fact that it is cheap AF (one color costs $5.50 versus $35 for the Laura Mercier one), the quality is outstanding.
  • Non comedogenic
  • Non drying
  • Stays put
  • Longlasting
  • Blends incredibly well with skin texture and color
  • Buildable
  • Very high coverage but there’s no “mask effect”
  • Can be used for both under eye and blemish concealing, and also for scars, tattoos etc.

See, here’s the thing, they are not that many blemish concealers out there (business idea?), concealers are wether too creamy to apply onto blemishes as they are made for under eye concealing and can be comedogenic, or too drying and not blending well with the rest of the skin.

How to use it:

Apply with a detailer brush and pat with your finger so that the product blends with the skin and repeat. Use small amounts at a time to build the coverage that is needed. The more you layer the product, the better and longer it will stay put and last.

What colors to buy:

Because the concealer range is not available in stores on the French Rivera, I ordered online. Having no access to seeing the real colors I went for a kit to have many colors to choose from. This mini palette has 16 colors and comes in 3 shades (fair, medium, dark), went for the fair one and I am so happy with the colors (from the picture you can see that I’ve been using D62, D406, D1W and D2W).

For reference I use MAC Face & Body foundation in N2 (and C4 when tan).

In the Dermacolor palette I use D62 and D1W for blemish concealing (D64 for when I am tan) and also D2W for when I want to conceal something on my cheeks where my blush is.

And I use D2W for my under eye to get rid of the blue and then D406 to brighten the area.

Mario Dedivanovic once shared that he uses D1 to conceal Kim Kardashian’s dark circles. If it’s good enough for Kim, it’s good enough for us. Yes it is cheap but it is the real deal and a professional product. Plus it is easy to blend colors together to obtain the right hue.

I once used D32 as a blush on my cheeks cause I had forgotten my blushes during a getaway weekend… And it worked, it gave me that fresh rosy cheeks look.

Best buy ever.

The kit costs $32.50 (for the full 16 color kit, against $35 for the 2 shade Laura Mercier concealer) and I renew it every year. I’m in the midst of my second one!

Available online at Kryolan’s website here.

Thank you for stopping by, I hope this product review of the Kryolan Dermacolor Camouflage Concealer was helpful.

With style,
