How to use Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil for Acne

You probably have heard of tea tree oil already and that it is great to cure acne.

It is an essential oil though, so it requires careful use and application and that’s what I am here for 😉

What is tea tree oil?

  • Tea tree oil is an essential oil derived from the tea tree leaves (nothing to do with the back tea or green tea leaves we drink…), the tea tree is native to Australia and this oil has been widely used and known to cure wounds since forever, taking care of killing many strains of bacteria, viruses and fungi.
  • It is also known as melaleuca oil.

Why is it great for acne?

  • Acne is an inflammatory disease mainly caused by bacteria, and tea tree oil is an amazing anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antiseptic and cicatrisant. Ta da.
  • Tea tree oil is said to be just as effective as benzoyl peroxide, but without the associated negative side effects that many people experience including red, dried and peeling skin. I have used a night cream with benzoyl peroxide, was very effective the first month and then I develop a sensitivity to it and now I can’t put it on my face unless I want an allergic reaction. Lovely. So we like the tea tree version better. Plus you know, it’s natural.

How to use it?

  • Here’s the thing, as it is an essential oil it is quite potent and should NOT be applied directly onto the skin. Apply your cream or facial oil first and then apply a drop of tea tree oil on the blemish(es). Argan oil is a very good base to use.

When to use it?

  • As the smell is quite strong, I usually apply it at night or during the day if I stay at home.
  • When you feel a blemish is coming, as prevention
  • When you have a blemish, as cure
  • Use it ONLY on blemishes, not all over the face. This is an essential oil, it is powerful, use it wisely.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope this tea tree oil review was helpful!

With style,

x M
